Nyamurinda - Rwanda

Nyamurinda Coffee Growers Ltd. was founded by sisters Mukamana Immaculée and Nyiramana Francine, who returned to their family’s land in the aftermath of the 1994 Tutsi genocide to undertake coffee production. Over the last decade, they have expanded the scope of their operations — from cultivating coffee on 10 hectares of their own land, to building their own washing station, to now owning and operating two washing stations and purchasing and processing coffee from other nearby smallholders. They continue today with an emphasis on supporting the women who account for nearly 90 percent of their workforce and nearly 80 percent of this lot’s contributing smallholders. We were drawn to this coffee on the cupping table for its satisfying combination of spiced sweetness, black tea, dried fruit, and surprising florality.
