Oh wow. The new Circling Sun record is knocking our socks off. Folks around here keep reaching for words like flabbergasted, astonished, stupefied, and dumbfounded. We’ve got it on right now and Kathleen just said, “What is this? This is fucking good!” What really gets me is the way they play together—every solo is wrapped in this gorgeous backdrop of velvety sound, never just hanging out there alone. They spent 20 years playing live before finally releasing their debut in 2023. They’re tapped into something special right now, and we’re so lucky they’re catching it on record.
Jose Joaquin Bolanos - San Agustin, Huila, Colombia
Jose Joaquin Bolanos grows Gesha, along with Pink Bourbon and Sidra, on his three hectare family farm in San Agustin, a municipality in Southern Huila that produces some of the best coffee in Colombia. This particular lot is a stellar representation of the Gesha variety cultivated in Colombia. While Gesha often presents in the cup as delicate and tea-like, this coffee pairs the variety’s distinctive intoxicating florality with juicy fruit and complex acidity. Expect white florals and heady, lingering aromatics atop a dense, high-intensity-but-structured profile of ripe tropicals and mouthwatering stone fruit.
