One of the reasons we love the Acevedo Cup so much is that it's anyone's game. While winners from one year may be perennial top finishers, it's unusual for farmers to repeat wins, and new farmers routinely submit cherry for the competition. One such new farmer is Nubia Jiminez, whose coffee placed eighth overall. Not too bad for a first time entry! And, honestly, this was one of our favorites of the whole bunch. Nubia's farm, Finca Buenaventura, is positioned at 1,500 masl, which is pretty low for elsewhere in Colombia. But, thanks to the neighboring cloud forests, the temperatures stay cool enough to help slow down cherry maturation and increasing sweetness and acidity. Coffee this clean and lively just shouldn't be possible at that altitude. Furthermore, this is 100 percent Colombia varietal—no fancy Gesha, Pacamara, or Pink Bourbon. Nubia's selection of Colombia couldn't be a better example of exquisite farming and processing contributing to an amazing product overall. Intense and vibrant, this coffee tastes like oranges, cherries, and chocolate.
